Medicare Savings Program
A Little Help for Medicare Beneficiaries
The Medicare Savings Program was designed to help Medicare beneficiaries with lower income. This program helps with the Medicare Part A and Part B premiums. It may also help with the Part A and Part B deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments.
There are four(4) levels of the Medicare Savings Program. They are based on your income if you’re single, or you and your spouse’s income if you’re married. Your resource limit, or assets, also have a part in determining qualification.
Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) pays the Part A premium, Part B premium, deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. For 2024, the maximum monthly income for an individual is $1,275, with a resource limit of $9,430. The maximum monthly income for a married couple is $1,724, with a resource limit of $14,130.
Specified Low Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) pays for the Part B premiums. For 2024, the maximum monthly income for an individual is $1,526, with a resource limit of $9,430. The maximum monthly income for a married couple is $2,064, with a resource limit of $14,130.
Qualifying Individual (QI) pays the Part B Premium. For 2024, the maximum monthly income for an individual is $1,715, with a resource limit of $9,430. The maximum monthly income for a married couple is $2,320, with a resource limit of $14,130.
Qualified Disabled & Working Individual (QDWI) is when an individual loses Social Security Disability income and their premium free Part A dues to having to return to work. QDWI pays for the Part A premium. For 2024, the maximum monthly income for an individual is $5,105, with a resource limit of $4,000. The maximum monthly income for a married couple is $6,899, with a resource limit of $6,000.
All four of these programs also qualify you for Extra Help, which is a prescription drug savings program.
